Microsite is an internet web design term referring to an individual web page or cluster of pages which are meant to function as an auxiliary supplement to a primary website. They are typically used to add a specialized group of information either editorial or commercial. Such sites may be linked in to a main site or not or taken completely off a site's server when the site is used for a temporary purpose. The main distinction of a microsite versus its parent site is its purpose and specific cohesiveness as compared to the microsite's broader overall parent website.

Landing Page is the page that appears when a potential customer clicks on an advertisement or a search-engine result link. The page will usually display content that is a logical extension of the advertisement or link, and that is optimized to feature specific keywords or phrases for indexing by search engines.

SMS and mobile marketing started in the early 2000s with the rise of the short message services (SMS). It is an alternative marketing channel which is conducted via mobile devices such as mobile phones.

Sweepstakes and contests are knows as sales promotions in marketing. This marketing activity which can also be used via internet aims to collect customer data. The customers receive e-mails which ask them several questions and they are required to answer those questions so that they will have a chance to win a prize.

Opt-in forms can be in two ways. Unconfirmed opt-in forms occur when a new subscriber first gives his/her address to a web page but no steps are taken to make sure that this address actually belongs to the person. This can cause e-mail from the mailing list to be considered spam because simple typos of the email address can cause the email to be sent to someone else. On the other hand, confirmed opt-in forms are the e-mails when a new subscriber asks to be subscribed to the mailing list, but unlike unconfirmed opt-in, a confirmation e-mail is sent to verify it was really them.

Banners and animated GIF's: Banner, is a kind of advertisement which is usually small, rectangular shape used on web sites. They can affect consumers even though they are not being clicked. Animated GIF's are the banners which are made of a series of frames. An individual display time is set for each frame, measured in fractions of a second.

Flash presentations are the animated visuals displayed on a home page of a web site. Usually the animated content is shown at the front of the web site while the main content is loading in the background. The intent is to captivate the user's attention so that he or she does not stray from the site.

Web advertisements: The difference between web and traditional advertisements is the format and content. Web advertisements consist of banners, pop-ups, pop-under or interstitials. A pop-up is an ad that displays in a new browser window. On the other hand pop-under is an ad that displays in a new browser window behind the current browser window. While pop-up ads are often shown (and closed) instantly, pop-under ads linger behind the current browser window, appearing only after other windows have been closed. Interstitial is an advertisement that loads between two content pages.
